The Estimator is responsible for the preparation of detailed cost estimate, supporting bid submissions, and coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate project pricing.
Duties
- Complete detailed quantity take-offs
- Issue tender requests to subcontractors and supplier, verify received bids for completeness & accuracy
- Provide pricing for change management for projects in construction
- Maintain unit pricing spreadsheet at closing of each tender
- Submit internal and subtrade RFI’s during tender period
- Lead final tender review meetings
- Follow market trends for material pricing
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction estimating experience, preferably in civil, commercial, industrial, or institutional construction.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labour, equipment, productivity, and project sequencing.
- Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
- Experienced in detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, bid preparation, and analysis of labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Excel, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experienced in soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and supplier quotations, including identifying exclusions, discrepancies, and project risks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tenders and meet tight deadlines.
- Construction field experience or a background in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
